AnnouncementsMarch General Meeting (**BMES Elections**)22 February 2008 We'll be having society elections at our next general meeting, which will be on March 6, at 6 PM in room 1310 DCL. This will be an important meeting whether or not you run for a position, because you will have a say in choosing the next leaders of this society. If you are interested in running for a position, please let myself or Ryan (rsteinb2@uiuc.edu) know. Thanks! February General Meeting21 January 2008 We'll be having our first general meeting of the semester this coming Thursday, February 7, at 6 PM in 1320 DCL. E-Week Application21 January 2008 E-week is just around the corner and BMES needs you to help us organize it! BMES is currently accepting applications for the position of E-Week chair, a part of the executive board. We encourage all paid members to apply for this chance to really become involved in the organization (plus, it always looks good on a resume). All ages, Freshmen through Seniors, should consider applying. The application can be found on our website under the 'Files' section. Once complete, please e-mail the file to our Secretary, Patrick Lee, at pllee2@uiuc.edu. The deadline for submissions is Monday January 28th at 5:00 p.m. Paintball21 January 2008 On February 24, BMES will be taking on the fields of paint and power in the ultimate match of the century... yes, the century. We have invited the pre-med organization, AMSA, to join us in a competition of might, grandeur, and endurance to prove who the better medical organization is. If you are interested in going, e-mail Giuseppe at gtoia2@uiuc.edu IMMEDIATELY so he can add you to the e-mail list for the event. The estimated cost is $30.00, and the last day to sign up is Saturday. Come out and support BMES! December in November General Meeting:14 November 2007 BMES will be holding its final general meeting of
the semester on October General Meeting:27 September 2007 Our monthly meeting will be held on 10/11 at 5:00 p.m. in 1310 DCL. At the meeting, we will have Dr. Jay Goldberg, Ph.D., P.E. as our guest speaker. Dr. Goldberg is currently the Director of the Healthcare Technologies Management Program at Marquette University and the Medical College of Wisconsin. This graduate program is a combination of technology, healthcare, and business and is of interest to biomedical engineers considering careers with medical device companies or hospitals. He will speak both about the program, present information on career opportunities for biomedical engineers, and answer questions. This is a great opportunity to learn much about industry opportunities in bioengineering, as well as a great graduate program. Hope to see you all there. BMES in 2007-200814 August 2007 With the 2007-2008 school year upon us, the BMES executive board would like to welcome all students back to campus or to campus for the first time. Afer transitioning from EMBS, an IEEE subsidiary, to BMES over the past two years, this year's board is excited to have developed a solid foundation for our organization on which we hope to grow and expand in the next few years. We would like to invite anyone interested to stop by our infromation tables during Quad Day or E-Night for more information about BMES, or feel free to peruse our website for any information. Also, look for an internet post on our site regarding our first general meeting soon. Thanks and good luck this year! Latest NewsBiomedical Engineering Society14 August 2007 Welcome to the University of Illinois student chapter of the Biomedical Engineering Society! As the full service professional society for Biomedical Engineering and Bioengineering, our goal is "To promote the increase of biomedical engineering knowledge and its utilization." Student members in BMES have many opportunities to learn about engineering and to meet fellow students with similar interests, including presentations on current information in research topics, academic programs, and career options; bioengineering projects for Engineering Open House; and numerous volunteer/outreach opportunities as well as social events. 2006-2007 Society of the Year11 March 2007 The Engineering Council Most Improved Society of the Year Award recognizes a society that has not only excelled in the last year, but has also improved upon its past performance. BMES has been selected because we have "overcome all obstacles in the new designation as a member of a national affiliation, secured sponsors to become more self-sustaining, and increased communication and cooperation with the BIOE Department." Much thanks to all our members for attending BMES events and helping to increase our presence within the College of Engineering! |
